Hearing

Andrew Stunell's campaign for fair compensation for people whose hearing was damaged when serving their country has won the attention of the Minister for Veterans' Affairs.

Hazel Grove MP, Andrew Stunell said:

"I am delighted that the Government has finally started to review their outdated and unfair policy to veterans who have suffered hearing loss from conflicts.

"Many veterans, from the Second World War and from more recent conflicts such as Afghanistan and Iraq, have suffered hearing loss and have not received adequate compensation."

The Ministry of Defence is now looking at how the compensation scheme for deafened veterans should be made fairer and the Royal National Institute for Deaf People (RNID) will meet with Don Touhig, the Minister for Veterans' Affairs, in the New Year.

Mr Stunell added:

"I will continue to campaign with the RNID until a fair compensation scheme is in place for veterans who have experienced significant hearing loss as a result of their military services."
